Division 1
Dailies 5,865 Circulation and Above

1. The Paris News/Sam Craft & Bill Ridder

1. This is a very original shot that shows a lot of action as well as emotion. The quality is great. 2. This picture is unusual and clever. It catches the emotion of both father and son. The quality and composition are both very good. Not the usual newspaper photo.

2. Texarkana Gazette/Robb Pittard & Evan Lewis

1. This photo caught the action well. This picture also catches the “moment” well of both the players and the game. Ball suspended between players – good timing. 2. It is nice to see the expression of the player. This photo allows the viewer to get close to the players. Not original as a football photo but it is reproduced well. Great capturing of player’s expression.

3. The Lufkin Daily News/Andy Adams and Joel Andrews

1. This is somewhat an average football shot. It caught the action well but is lacking in activity. Good action captured. 2. This is a typical baseball pose. It is a good shot but again it lacks in creativity. Well composed shot. The quality of both pictures is great.

4. The Daily Sentinel (Nacogdoches)/Andrew D. Brosig

1. We would have liked the picture to show more creativity. The photo didn’t grab our attention as well as others. 2. This is a common softball shot. We appreciated the action but overall it wasn’t an original shot.

Division 2
Dailes Circulation Up to 5,864

1. Athens Daily Review/Charles Stiff & Brad Bennett

1. Zeroed in on the action. Good focus on three players. 2. Good speed – background clutter detracts. A different angle possibly could have eliminated the background of people’s backs.

2. Henderson Daily News/Hughes Ellis

1. Photo captures the player’s expression and blocks a lot of background clutter. Good composition. 2. Average football picture. Too many players with white helmets in the photo. It looks busy.

3. Kilgore News Herald/Kathy Bowden & Cindy Kulak

1. Kind of a typical football photo. Good color. 2. Captures action, but it’s so blurry. Player with back to the viewer blocks the action.

4. Waxachie Daily Light/Neal White

1. Good color, good use of photo for this large spread. 2. The one of guys playing basketball with their backs to the readers – why it is even on the page?
