Division 1
Dailies 5,865 Circulation and Above

1. The Paris News

“Honda ad had a good play on words. It connected the scenery to the words. Campbell’s ad caught our eye with the cowboy had on the Prego. Shows sense of humor. Huggies ad was creative to position the Huggie package on the little girl’s shirt to make it say ‘I love Huggies.’”

2. The Lufkin Daily News

“Lufkin Daily News ad was excellent. It got the point across. Repetitive. Car ad was basic with the information, but it had good typography. Lawn care ad was small, but the picture stood out. The dog catches your eye.”

3. The Terrell Tribune

“Need more info on Relay for Life, such as where it takes place. Would love to enter Superb owl contest. How? Font to small in Tower Place ad. Placed in an odd spot.”

4. Texarkana Gazette

“Main Street ad was awful. Too much clutter. I’m speechless. Texarkana Eye Associates had good graphics and good informative pictures. Christmas ad was overwhelming.”

Division 2
Dailies Circulation Up to 5,864

1. Ennis Daily News

“Stockyard Hotel: price standout. Furniture: black and white, used presidents for a Presidents Day sale. Westfest: cluttered, too much info for small ad.”

2. Kilgore News Herald

“Signature Pools: colorful, shape of pool, creative, easily read, not cluttered. The Corners: good use of small space, shows products, photos good, easily read. Personalize It: don’t know what business it is, sports page doesn’t fit.”

3. Athens Daily Review

“Triple Creek B-B-Q: open, no borders separating, easy to read, cute. Lone Star Western Wear: black and white, rope graphics creative, type small. Cathy’s Boutique: doesn’t jump out on you, drew attention to name of business, small print.”

4. Waxahachie Daily Light

“Roland’s Nursery: colorful, plain, thrown together. The Greenary: colorful, cluttered. Buffalo Gap: colorful, pictures very cluttered.”

Division 3
Semi-Weeklies

1. The Center Light and Champion

“Attention grabbing, good use of photos. Good use of words, can tell what they are selling. Misleading, but good ad, great photos.”

2. Mansfield News-Mirror

“Coupons, color, clear image, a little busy, emphasizes name. Balanced, coupon, clear name, not busy, effective white space, bold colors, easy contact info. Doesn’t show product, somewhat scary, misleading info/picture, good attention getter, gets point across.”

3. Wise County Messenger (Decatur)

“Popilicions: like graphics, not much white space is good, name is too hard to read, contact info too small. Buckle Up: boring, no color, bad graphics, misleading top line, we thought it was about seatbelt, contact info too small. Fit-n-Wise: Almost too big, good emotional appeal, good photos, 30 minutes is well emphasized.”

4. Hood County News (Granbury)

“Strange floating furniture, good use of color, needs more contrast, nice logo, nice typography and contact info. Bold but cheesy theater, looks like two different ads (movie ad and car ad), busy. Pictures good, bold, easy to read, good use of table and bottom to frame information.”

“1. All the pictures made the page too busy, but the ad is very creative. 2. Confusing and lots of type, no one wants to read it. What are the spurs there for? 3. Vibrant, powerful, but may not necessarily sell a lot for the bank.”

4. Cedar Creek Pilot (Gun Barrel City)

“1. Cute and appeals to the target audience . The best ad from this paper. 2. Where is the name of the business? 3. Beer! The products pictured do not stand out because they are in black and white.”
